A new day. I was reflecting on my love for the music we call jazz. I started thinking of when I first heard the music. I was around 9 years old and a show was on tv as a tribute to African Americans. I remember hearing Sarah Vaughn. She had on one of those long flowing white, stay in the house gowns. Confortable. And as a dark complexioned woman she had bright red hair. I watched it but it was when I watched the video over and over that I was so impressed. She sang a high as any opera vocalist and as low as any big ol man. I wish I could find it somewhere. Everyone was on that. Mom's Mabley was a comedian I laughed and laughed. Her husband was ugly. She had no teeth which was just hilarious. Well, Sarah sang like a bird. It was a rich beautiful sound like watching notes fly into the air on the Electric Company. She was effortless and it was amazing. I used to watch and watch and rewatch and rewatch. It was sweet. I miss music like that. I totally respect the hard work and dedication of the vocalists of old. They were just that daggone good. It takes a lot of practice and skill to sing that well. Musicians had passion for the music. It seems like music is about the money now. I hate that. Money is always good. Everyone in America could use more of it right now but when the music makers decided money was more important than ART, it lost a lot of good, no great musicians to reach the top. Now if you look right, or know the right person, or dress a certain way, or etc... can make lots of money, you too will make it but what about the Art. I admire musicians that still play for 10.00 just to play. I can't do it anymore. I won't do it anymore but I still love the music. I hope there are others out there that can help generate beautiful music.

I remember the first time I sang the song a Tisket a Tasket. I was in 3rd grade and Ms. Oatley taught it to me. I remember going to the back of the class and thinking it was such a cool song. I sang it and sang it and sang it over and over. I remember leaving the city and singing in the car going back to Columbus Ohio for a visit. Ella... Wow. Amazing...

I simply want to ask you in Cyber world to go back out ot the jazz spots and listen to the sweet music of old. I wish you the best til we meet one day...
